Roles at koala klubs

CAMP MANAGERS

 

Role Purpose

The Camp Manager is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and smooth operation of a Koala Klubs holiday camp. You will oversee staff, manage safeguarding and welfare, ensure engaging activities are delivered, and act as the main point of contact for parents and partners on site.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

  • Lead, motivate, and supervise a team of Activity Leaders and support staff
  • Allocate roles, manage rotas, and ensure appropriate staff-to-child ratios
     
  • Deliver daily briefings and ensure staff follow policies and procedures
     
  • Act as a positive role model at all times
     

Safeguarding & Welfare

  • Take overall responsibility for safeguarding and child welfare on site
     
  • Respond appropriately to incidents, accidents, and concerns
     
  • Ensure safeguarding, behaviour management, and health & safety policies are followed
     
  • Maintain accurate records (incident forms, registers, medication logs, etc.)
     

Programme Delivery

  • Oversee the delivery of a varied, fun, and inclusive activity programme
     
  • Ensure activities are safe, age-appropriate, and engaging
     
  • Adapt sessions to meet the needs of all children, including SEND
     
  • Promote positive behaviour and inclusion throughout the day
     

Parent & Stakeholder Communication

  • Be the main point of contact for parents and carers on site
     
  • Manage sign-in/sign-out procedures and daily communications
     
  • Liaise professionally with venue staff, partners, and council representatives
     
  • Handle feedback, questions, and complaints calmly and professionally
     

Operations & Compliance

  • Ensure registers, headcounts, and ratios are accurate at all times
     
  • Oversee food provision in line with HAF and food safety standards (where applicable)
     
  • Ensure venues are left clean, safe, and secure at the end of each day
     
  • Support compliance checks, audits, and inspections
     

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working with children aged 4–12 years
     
  • Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role
     
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
     
  • Confident decision-maker, able to remain calm under pressure
     
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures
     
  • Ability to manage behaviour positively and consistently
     
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
     

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Level 3 qualification in Childcare, Playwork, Education, Sports or similar
     
  • Experience managing a holiday club, childcare setting, or HAF programme
     
  • Paediatric First Aid qualification
     
  • Safeguarding Level 2 or 3 training
     
  • Experience supporting children with SEND

ACTIVITY LEADERS

 

The Role

As an Activity Leader, you will be responsible for delivering fun, safe, engaging activities that children love — while ensuring high standards of care, inclusion and safeguarding at all times.

You’ll be energetic, approachable, organised, and passionate about working with children.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver a wide range of fun, safe and engaging activities (sports, games, crafts, team challenges and enrichment sessions)
     
  • Support children of different ages, abilities and needs, including SEND
     
  • Actively supervise children and maintain a safe environment at all times
     
  • Build positive relationships with children, parents and colleagues
     
  • Encourage positive behaviour, teamwork and confidence
     
  • Follow all Koala Klubs policies and procedures, including safeguarding, health & safety and food hygiene
     
  • Support set-up, pack-down and daily venue checks
     
  • Work collaboratively with the Camp Manager and wider team
     
  • Assist with meal times and support children during food provision (HAF camps)
     

Essential Requirements

  • Aged 18+
     
  • Experience working with children (schools, childcare, sports coaching, youth work or similar)
     
  • Confident, enthusiastic and reliable
     
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
     
  • Ability to manage groups of children safely
     
  • Willingness to undertake a DBS check (enhanced)
     
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare
     

 Desirable (but not essential)

  • Relevant qualifications (Childcare, Teaching, Sports Coaching, Playwork, Youth Work)
     
  • Paediatric First Aid
     
  • Safeguarding training
     
  • Experience delivering holiday camps or HAF provision
     
  • Experience working with SEND children
